CHAPTER SIX
ONE REASON CINDY WAS SO SUCCESSFUL AS A MODEL WAS HER FETISH
for fashion. She truly loved the clothes. Many fashion models don't care much for clothes after spending half their waking hours dressing in one couture gown or Channel suit after another. But Cindy was different; she loved the whole scene. And the more she dressed in pretty, fashionable things for her work, the more she lusted after them for her personal wardrobe.
A large part of my job was caring for her extensive, fashionable wardrobe. Her collection of designer dresses, one-of-a-kind cashmere sweaters, European shoes, and elegant lingerie was legendary within the business. Sometimes Cindy was hired by photographers simply because of her love and knowledge of fashions.
As her full-time maid and laundress I was instrumental in helping Cindy indulge her craving for pretty clothes. Hiring me was really a good solution for her, since she wore things that required so much care. Without me, she would have spent a fortune on pressing and laundry services. All things considered, I probably turned out to be a bargain for the clotheshorse model.
Cindy was as meticulous about her apartment as she was about her clothes. She had hired an architect and decorator to re-do her large Upper East Side place before she had moved in. The extensive renovation was still being finished as I came into her life, so last minute changes resulted in the creation of the maid's room and the laundry room.
Cindy's master bedroom was elegant and modern, supporting the monochromatic effect her entire apartment was done in. (The frilly maid's room was the exception.) Custom dressers in light gray enamel lined her room, and a king-size pedestal bed dominated the center. The thick, charcoal-gray carpet had a simple emerald border a foot from the flat white walls. Color for the room was provided by bright, jewel-tone satin comforters, throw pillows, and a pink satin chair at her vanity.
An enormous walk-in closet adjoined the master bedroom, as did the large, luxurious marble bath. Custom-designed shelves and compartments in the closet helped organize Miss Cindy's outfits and hundreds of pairs of matching shoes.
MAID IN FORM "A" 55 Clothes hampers on casters fit in the closet, designed to allow for separation of dry cleaning, whites, and cottons.
A large white wicker basket lined with satin was labeled "Hand-Wash Only." This was an idea her decorator came up with when Cindy had shown off her collection of exquisite lingerie by La Perla, Lejaby and other top intimate-wear designers. The decorator thought it was "delightful" that Cindy would be having a maid to do all her laundry for her, and said she wished she could afford such luxury herself.
CHRISTIAN LACROIX AND AZZEDINE ALAIA WERE TWO OF MISS CINDY'S favorite designers. Both Lacroix and Alaia are quite popular with many pretty women with model-perfect bodies. But since their designs are primarily directed toward such fashion leaders as models and actresses anyway, their popularity with them wasn't much of a surprise.
Lacroix's striking colors, combined with an almost frivolous femininity, made him Cindy's favorite for evening. Cindy liked his recent little boleros and tight-waisted designs inspired by Old Madrid.
And Alaia's creations always showed such an acute sense of a woman's body. He was widely acknowledged as nothing short of a genius. "The Wizard of Fit" was what one fashion rag called him. Although his things were trendy and expensive, Cindy had several in her closet, and I loved dressing her in them.
Miraculously, the feminine shape of her seemed even more sensuous clothed in Alaia than when she was nude. One remarkable Alaia dress was sewn from bands of tight black jersey and showed off tantalizing strips of Cindy's skin. But it wasn't the skin that was intriguing. There was a subtle increase in the width of the tantalizing strips where she was fullest, providing a sort of visual topographic of her wonderful shape. Amazing!
Although Lacroix and Alaia were still her favorites, Karl Lagerfeld's tastefully updated Channel designs were beginning to interest Cindy more and more recently. Lagerfeld had brought a younger and more sensual feel to Chanel's classic themes. It was easy for me to predict that Lagerfeld's Channel was likely to be one of Cindy's next "absolute favorites.

Cindy had recently been in the mood for Ungaro, too. The curvy, body-conscious designs and unexpected mix of colors looked great on Cindy. Tight little dresses, flirty skirts and glamorous lingerie are the specialties of the house at Ungaro,
